Getting Around
Location
The property is in the village of Ao Nam Mao in Krabi Province, Thailand, just a short drive from the bustling Ao Nang and Railay Beach areas.
Air
Krabi International Airport (KBV) is the local international airport and numerous flights depart daily to destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Dubai, etc. Here’s a link that helps a lot https://www.flightsfrom.com/KBV
Ferry & Speedboat
Ferries to Phuket leave from Krabi Town and from Nopparat Thara Pier, which is located in the river, to the west of Nopparat Thara Beach. The pier is Ao Nang's main arrival point by boat and serves as the hub for large ferries travelling to and from Phuket and Koh Phi Phi Island, as well as tour boats to the local isles. You can purchase tickets on-site but may need to book ahead.
Another option is from Krabi River. The ferry from Krabi Town (Klong Jilad Ferry Pier) to Koh Phi Phi (Tonsai Pier) takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Kanchita Speedboats (Ph: +66936152181) are as fast as 45 minutes. They leave from Kongkha Pier, kongkha Road, Tambon Pak Nam, Mueang Krabi District, Krabi 81000, Thailand. Tickets can be booked at the pier, and prices vary depending on the operator and type of ferry. Speedboats and ferries also connect with Koh Lanta from Krabi Town in high season.
Longtail boats to Railay
A jetty exists just a 5-minute walk from the hotel, offering quick and affordable transport by longtail boat to East Railay Beach (TB100 one way). You can then walk to West Railay to catch a different long-tail to Ao Nang for another 100 Baht.
Hotel transport
The Hotel also has a shuttle van (with driver) who will happily transport you from A to B for a small fee. The van (and driver) be hired for the day to take you to various tourist attractions.
Bicycles
Bicycles are available for guest use at the property, allowing you to explore the beauty of this peaceful village at your own pace.
Self-drive
Most people get around by scooter/ motorbike or car. Traffic tends drive slowly, yet it can still seem like you’re in a Crash Bandicoot game as road rules appear open to interpretation. Driving is on the left side of the road (like they do in the UK and Australia). International driver licences are required. Renting a car costs approx TB900/day plus a 3000baht deposit. Ensure you have your international drivers license so you are covered by your travel insurance. We recommend: Green Day Krabi https://krabigreenday.com Call Piew on +66 85 781 9681
Scooters
Scooters can be rented through Malee, but we do not recommend this unless you have a valid scooter or motorcycle licence and considerable experience both riding a scooter and driving in Thailand. Although they will rent to you even if you don’t have these things, it’s actually LAW for foreigners to have a motorbike or scooter licence, due to the high number of serious accidents and deaths that they’re involved in. Despite what you’ll see all around, wearing a helmet is also law and the police delight in pulling foreigners over and fining them. IMPORTANT: your insurance will NOT pay out if you have an accident and you have not complied with Thai law!
Grab
Catching a grab in high season is not so easy and some days you’ll be waiting upwards of half an hour. One of the guests went to Krabi town, tried to catch a Grab home, and waited 2 hours in vain before calling Malee to send Chok to pick her up!
Hotel van
Ask Malee ahead of time to book Chok or Ian to take you places in the van. Keep in mind that they may also be busy with airport pickups or shuttling other guests into town too. So, if you need to be somewhere at a certain time, give Malee a little notice. Please ask Malee how much it will cost and, if going as a group, have each person pay their share in cash to you, then Malee can put the total cost against your bill.
Tuk Tuks
Tuk Tuks are available everywhere in Thailand and are one heck of a lot of fun to ride in! Again Malee can arrange a tuk tuk for you, or you can call one of the drivers recommended below. They charge 100/150 Baht to go down to the village or Joy Beach, and approx. 300 baht into Ao Nang. Tuk Tuks in Ao Nang charge about 400 Baht to return to the hotel and the price varies if it’s evening or if there is more than one person. We recommend calling: David Whats App +66 62 817 9639
Private car
Lucky is also another option to try if you need to be taken to appointments or out somewhere for a few hours. As well as the tours and trips he will organize. Lucky’s WhatsApp number is: +66 92 773 8775
