Marigold Luang Prabang, Laos
The Marigold Luang Prabang is a tranquil sanctuary located in the former royal capital of Laos; a globally renowned UNESCO World Heritage site. Considered the gem of Asia, Luang Prabang boasts ancient temples, French colonial architecture, and tree-lined streets that have a refined, feminine beauty.
Marigold Luang Prabang reflects the elegance and cultural history of the town. Accommodations are within five meticulously designed Lao timber houses, clustered in a picturesque ‘village’ setting. Two of these houses are recognized by the UNESCO World Heritage Programme as of historic significance and value. They have undergone restoration under the auspices of "La Maison du Patrimoine," which is entrusted with preserving the traditional architecture of Luang Prabang.
The property features verdant palm gardens that surround a saltwater pool and meticulously restored historic timber homes. The refined timber structures boast expansive verandahs, shuttered windows, and gleaming timber floors. They draw inspiration from Lao architectural principles, incorporating open-air social spaces and elevated living to naturally maintain a cool and relaxing ambiance.
Other amenities include a dedicated reading area, an intimate bar, open-air restaurant, small gallery and reception.
Within a 5-minute stroll, are quaint European-style cafes, and 5-minutes beyond those, the main street’s restaurant, museum, galleries, boutiques, and vibrant night market can be found

Rooms on the ground floor of the Heritage buildings offer a choice of twin beds, queen, or king-sized beds.
Tradition category rooms are In harmony with the style of private homes in Ban Meuna and the adjacent quaint Wat (temple). Three buildings were designed to seamlessly integrate them with the older Heritage-listed structures, adhering to sustainable development principles, preserving green spaces, and the using natural materials and insulation.
The interior decor of both categories incorporates high-quality silk and cotton fabrics; intricately embroidered and woven by Lao ethnic tribespeople. Contemporary artwork complements dark tropical hardwoods, creating a distinguished yet comfortable ambiance in each room.

Activities
In Luang Prabang, there are a lot of activities; all of which happen at a slow and leisurely pace. From temples (wats) to museums and galleries, Luang Prabang has more than its fair share. It’s historic buildings are well worth viewing and most have been beautifully restored to their former state. Laos is one of the best countries to discover traditional handicrafts, and there are many opportunities to learn new skills by joining a workshop.
The country is also an adventure-enthusiast’s playground, with limestone karst mountains, white water rivers, remote hilltribe villages, national parks, and jungles aplenty. You can go climbing, zip lining, mountain biking, kayaking, caving, hiking, 4x4 driving, boating, dirt biking, and wildlife spotting.
Shopping
Luang Prabang has retained its small-town community feel, and so you should expect the range of items available in stores to be limited. There are no shopping malls (or traffic lights for that matter) in Luang Prabang. There are no large grocery stores either. That said, you can usually get the necessities… although reading the labels or recognizing food ingredients can be an adventure. Pharmacies with a pretty good range of medicines (over the counter) can be found everywhere, as can ATMs.
Luang Prabang has one of the best night markets in Asia, It’s on every single night and hilltribe handicrafts are available for a song! Luang Prabang is also a good place to pick up inexpensive brand-name walking, running and hiking shoes, as well as brand name sports clothing such as Patagonia and North Face.
Finding your purpose
If you’re looking for a way to connect with community and get involved in a worthy cause, you have an abundance from which to choose! Local schools and big Brother Mouse House welcome volunteers who are willing to help students, adults and monks improve their English language and literacy skills. There are also NGOs that teach handicraft skills, and organizations that help the disabled and and land mine survivors. As for environmental causes, you can get involved in recycling efforts, reforestation, wildlife conservation, or caring for the street cats and dogs; of which there are many.
Where to eat
Your day at Marigold Luang Prabang starts with a hearty breakfast in our on-site restaurant, consisting of tea or coffee, fresh fruit juice, fruit salad, baguette, butter, homemade jams and yogurts, eggs or omelettes. The restaurant also serves lunch or dinner, discover traditional Lao cooking, as well as Asian and French dishes that have been prepared with fresh produce from the local market.
Cafes and restaurants can be found on almost every street you venture down in Luang Prabang. An abundance of food stalls exists in and around the night market (which takes place every night of the year), as well as in the local markets and food markets. The range of cuisines available is simply astounding and - if you think you’ll lose weight staying in this country, the creme brulee, chocolate mousse, waffles, croissants, and sicky rice will prove you wrong.
